Use a  polishing cloth to gently wipe this item clean, then you can storage it in a zip plastic bag which would limit exposure to air and within that perhaps require  less maintenance. Peridot can be safely cleaned with warm, soapy water. Steam cleaning is not suggested, as peridot should not be exposed to high heat.
